What is chiropractic treatment?

It consists of a wide range of specific manual techniques designed to improve the function of joints, relieve pain and muscle spasm and irritation to the nervous system. Chiropractors treat the causes of pain and use their hands to manipulate joints thus improving mobility and relieving pain. Manipulating joints in the spine or other areas of the body stimulates proprioceptors – your body’s position sensors, which provide feedback to the brain. This stimulation can affect the way your nervous system works.

Chiropractic treatment is suitable for most people including babies, the elderly, pregnant women and sports enthusiasts.

Some common problems regularly treated by chiropractors include:

  • Neck and arm pain
  • Back pain and sciatica
  • Headaches
  • Sports injuries
  • Shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankle problems

As well as the above, chiropractors may help with a number of other conditions including:

  • Asthma
  • Digestive disorders
  • Migraine
  • Infant colic
  • Menstrual pains

Sports injuries

Chiropractic treatment for sports injuries concentrates on manipulative adjustments to your spine, joints and muscles, so allowing them to move correctly, and advice on rehabilitation and maintenance exercises to improve strength and flexibility.
